Tourism Specialist

Position:
The Tourism Specialist is a full-time salary position with the Callaway Chamber of Commerce, reporting directly to the CEO of the Chamber. The position will work to bring visitors into Callaway County while continuously improving the business culture in the community.
 
Duties include:
 
Position and brand Callaway County as a notable tourism destination for a variety of targeted audiences. (day trippers, overnight visitors, motorcoach guests, and others.)
  • Follow industry best practices to develop, implement, monitor, and measure a variety of marketing, advertising and public relation strategies needed to increase overnight stays and visitations to tourism attractions and services, with particular emphasis on tourism assets that are unique to Callaway County.
  • Apply and administer grant applications, with particular focus on Missouri Tourism Cooperative Marketing Programs.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships and professional networks with tourism industry partners, as well as public and private stakeholders on a local, regional, state, and national level.
  • Help support and sustain a business climate that is conducive to the success of local hospitality related businesses, services, events, and attractions.
  • Stay up to date and communicate on all activities that might be of interest to visitors.
  • Work with Marketing and Special Events Coordinator to assist in telling the stories of the local entrepreneurial community in Callaway County
  • Develop working relationships with organizations such as, but not limited to, Visit Missouri, Missouri Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus
  • Work with Marketing and Special Events Coordinator to tell the virtual story of Callaway County using social and digital media.
  • Work with businesses, K-12, college and university and all other entities to identify opportunities for visitors to the community.
  • Assist with conferences in Callaway County
  • Provide monthly report on general tourism activities
  • Provide monthly reports on website G4 Analytics, META insights, major bookings (meetings, business groups, etc.)
  • Other Duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • A qualified applicant would be a graduate of bachelor’s degree in business, Hospitality & Restaurant Management, or another related field, or higher. Preferences will be given to an applicant that has previous tourism experience.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Interpersonal skills to successfully develop positive relationships.
  • Must be able to create a welcoming environment.

  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records.

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
