Production Lead
Court Street Custom Fulfillment · Job Description
Full-time, 40 hrs/week, exempt · On-site at 640 Commons Drive, Fulton, MO
Role Summary
The Production Lead is responsible for the successful, on-time completion of all kitting and production work moving through the Court Street warehouse, with particular ownership of our key accounts — clients whose orders require special stickering, labeling, marking, and shipping handling. The most important part of the role: track all incoming client project requests, know what's coming down the line, set priorities, keep both high-stakes key account orders and steady day-to-day replenishment production moving correctly and on time, and will also perform some of the production work directly as needed. The Production Lead directly manages production labor — requesting labor from the warehouse manager, training, day-to-day task assignment, quality control — and works closely with the Warehouse Manager to keep workflow, staffing, and shipping aligned.
This role is succeeding when:
- Key account orders go out correctly and on time, every time.
- Routine production keeps pace so no client order is held up by an out-of-stock.
- The production area is organized and supplies never run out, because they were ordered ahead of need.
- Processes are documented well enough that quality doesn't depend on one person's memory.
- Clients trust us, because we communicate clearly and deliver on promised deadlines.
- The team knows what to do from the moment they arrive and has the tools to work efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Key Account Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts, managing day-to-day client communication on order status, timelines, and issue resolution.
- Own each key account order start to finish: from the time it comes in from the client to the time it ships out.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of exactly how each key account needs its orders handled: stickering, labeling, marking, packaging, and shipping requirements.
- Translate client requirements into clear floor instructions so staff can execute special handling correctly.
- Coordinate freight for key account shipments, including arranging pickups.
- Ensure key account orders are prioritized and go out correctly and on time, bringing any workload or scheduling conflicts to the Warehouse Manager's attention.
Production & Kitting Oversight
- Own the production calendar so all kitting and replenishment tasks are completed, organized, and tracked to completion.
- Prioritize across competing work at any given time — key account orders, routine production, and replenishment kitting for the smaller brands we regularly produce for — in conjunction with the Warehouse Manager.
- Efficiently deploy staff every morning and throughout the day based on that day's priorities.
- Perform quality control on kitted and packaged orders, including time studies as needed to support accurate production rates and client bids.
- Keep the workflow from organization to production to picking/shipping running smoothly and on schedule.
Team & Staff Supervision
- Oversee daily production and shipping staff.
- Set weekly working schedules for production/shipping staff, in coordination with the Warehouse Manager.
- Train full-time and seasonal production/shipping staff, including onboarding and evaluations.
- Mentor and develop team members, providing support and guidance as they build their skills.
- Address conflicts and performance issues within the team promptly, reporting significant crew performance problems to the Warehouse Manager.
- Secure adherence to company policies and guidelines.
Process Documentation & Improvement
- Author and maintain detailed, step-by-step written checklists and processes for kitting tasks, key account handling requirements, and packaging/labeling standards.
- Follow existing checklists precisely, while continually identifying and implementing more efficient ways to do the work.
- Keep documentation current as account requirements or processes change.
- Execute administrative and improvement projects assigned by warehouse management.
Supplies & Facility Organization
- Monitor and forecast usage of kitting and production supplies (stickers, labels, ribbon, poly sleeves, and similar materials), and purchase supply inventory as needed.
- Order supplies proactively so the team is never scrambling at the last minute.
- Keep the production facility area organized, clean, and safe, so materials are on hand and easy to find.
Qualifications & Skills
- 3–5 years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, production, or account/client management; supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Thrive in a fast paced, high pressure environment.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required; equivalent hands-on experience is welcome.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy while working quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong project management instincts: able to track multiple concurrent priorities, anticipate what's coming, and sequence work accordingly rather than reacting to whatever's loudest.
- Able to both follow a detailed written checklist exactly and author new ones — identifying the most efficient way to do a task and writing it down clearly enough for someone else to repeat it.
- Comfortable owning quality control from start to finish, including on shipments with special handling requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, both with clients and with the team, by phone and email.
- Self-starter with strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills; solution-oriented.
- Genuinely enjoys teamwork and cares about developing people.
- Experience coordinating freight or shipping logistics.
- Comfortable with fulfillment/warehouse systems and Excel or similar spreadsheet tools; generally at ease with computers and basic software/hardware troubleshooting.
- Time-oriented, deadline-driven, and calm under the pressure of juggling several things at once.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
- Enthusiastic, warm personality; curious and a lifelong learner.
