North Callaway R-1 Thunderbird Learning Center Earns DESE QAR “Demonstrating Quality” Designation

The North Callaway R-1 School District is proud to announce that the Thunderbird Learning Center has earned the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Quality Assurance Report (QAR) designation of “Demonstrating Quality.” This prestigious recognition places the Thunderbird Learning Center among an elite group of programs statewide.
The Thunderbird Learning Center is one of only four centers in the state of Missouri to receive the “Demonstrating Quality” designation and is the first rural school district in Missouri to earn this honor.
The DESE QAR process is a rigorous review that evaluates early childhood programs on standards including curriculum, instruction, family engagement, staff qualifications, learning environments, and continuous improvement practices. Receiving this designation reflects the Thunderbird Learning Center’s unwavering commitment to excellence and student success.
“This recognition speaks volumes about the quality of care, instruction, and dedication taking place every day at the Thunderbird Learning Center,” said Kurt Warfield, Callaway County Eastern District Commissioner. “North Callaway does a great job serving families and children, and this achievement is something our entire community can be proud of.”
Superintendent Dr. Kenya Thompson praised the staff and leadership of the center, noting the impact this work has on the district’s youngest learners.
“This recognition reflects the outstanding leadership of Director Tia Neal, the dedication of the Thunderbird Learning Center staff, and the strong partnerships with our families,” said Dr. Kenya Thompson, Superintendent of North Callaway R-1. “Being awarded ‘Demonstrating Quality’ affirms our commitment to our youngest learners, and becoming the first rural district in Missouri to receive this designation is an honor worth celebrating.”
Dr. Thompson added that the designation reinforces the district’s belief that investing in early learning strengthens the entire school system and community.
