The Director of the Office of Student Accessibility Resources is the campus liaison between students with documented disabilities and University staff and faculty.  The Director also oversees provision of interpreting service needs for both faculty and students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Evaluate documentation and establish services for students, faculty and staff.

·         Review and revise policies as necessary to remain compliant with federal and other corresponding  regulations.

·         Recruit, train and supervise note-takers, readers, and scribes for students.

·         Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and its amendments and other federal laws, such as the Fair Housing Act, when applicable

·         Stays abreast of changes in disability laws and best practices in accommodations and required services.

·         Maintain confidential records of student services.

·         Contract for and coordinate interpreting services for WWU classes and events.

·         Coordinate materials that need to be provided in alternative formats.

·         Meet with prospective students with disabilities and their families to discuss possible services.

·         Serve as a liaison for students and faculty when an accommodation needs to be negotiated.

·         Provide training, guidance and support to faculty and staff working with students with disabilities and collaborate with support services on campus.

·         Work with University Information Technologies staff to review and evaluate assistive technology, telecommunication and other adaptive equipment/devices to assist students with disabilities.

·         Consult as needed with the University Coordinator of Legal Affairs

·         Proctor student examinations.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

• Three (3) years of student disability services experience in higher education preferred.

• Active, energetic involvement in small college environment and a commitment to improving the quality of living and learning on a university campus.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, faculty, students and parents.

• Maintain confidentiality.

• Desire to work with college students.

• Ability to work without constant supervision (self-motivated).

• Ability to handle more than one task at a time.

Work Schedule:

This is a full time, exempt, 40-hour per week; benefit eligible, 12-month position with evening and/or weekend work as needed.
